Scott Brown Only Slightly Better Alternative than Martha Coakley
When it comes down to it, Scott Brown is no conservative. He’s a liberal-leaning politician on a Republican ticket. But as far as Massachusetts goes, he’d might as well be Ronald Reagan.
Having explored Brown’s vision for the nation’s energy policy, it left a bad taste in my mouth. While neither of the major candidates in this race for the now-deceased Edward Kennedy’s seat are really good for this country, Brown at least says he’s opposed to the implementation of a cap-and-trade system, which would cause “higher costs that families and businesses would incur,” according to a statement at his official site, [Source:BrownForSenate.com].
What scares me about Brown is his enthusiasm for alternative sources of energy, such as wind, water, solar, hydroelectric and, surprisingly, nuclear power. While nuclear power is what us global warming opponents have been preaching for ages as a safe and viable alternative to unreliable wind power and expensive and inefficient solar panels, it’s what Brown doesn’t say here that gives me the most concern: offshore drilling. I do applaud Brown’s desire to wean our country from foreign sources of oil, but a lack of committment to using any domestic oil sources is disturbing. And at a time when the powderkeg known as the Middle East could be on the brink of more turmoil (read: Iran), gas prices could soar overnight if a conflict were to erupt.
But Brown is what we conservatives call a RINO, or Republican-in-name-only. His support of the aforementioned alternative sources of energy, I’m afraid, will only encourage the Democrat-led Congress to continue to fund and subsidize Big Wind at the expense of domestic drilling. This, in comparison to Coakley, who is fully in-the-tank for global warming and did everything but drop Al Gore’s name as statements from her official site, [Source:MarthaCoakley.com], gushed over her belief in man-made climate change.
On a side note, who else thinks Brown looks like Lyman Ward, the actor who played Ferris’ dad Tom Bueller in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off? If you don’t know what I’m talking about, watch a clip of the film here and pay close attention starting at the 2:02 mark.
